Packing is an important key to any successful moving process. Skyline Van Lines can assist you with your packing needs by proving packing material and professional packing team.
But if you decide to pack your items yourself here are a few tips.
For a successful moving process you will need packing supplies, which will protect your valuable items.
- Boxes
- Newsprint (unprinted news paper for wrapping)*
- Bubble wrap
- Packing tape
- Marker
- Scissors
*Note : Ink from newspaper can transfer and stain your items.
Start packing at least two weeks prior your moving day. It will give you enough time for planning and preparation. Pack one room at a time, it will help you to keep your goods well organized. Do not pack more than 40 pounds per box, it will prevent damages of boxes, since every box has maximum load capacity. Pack heavy items in smaller boxes, light and bulky items in bigger boxes. Pack heavy items on the bottom and lighter on the top of the box. Mark each box, designate to each room.
Packing your kitchen:
Plates/China Use Dishpacks to pack your kitchen, since they have double stitching at the bottom. Place cushion material (bundled or rolled up paper) on the bottom of the box. Wrap each plate separately, with a few sheets of paper, then wrap three plates in one bundle and tape them together. Place them on the side of the box standing on the edge. Use the same technique for the rest of your dishes, make sure to place cushions in between bundles. Seal the box, with tape and mark kitchen, fragile.
Cups/Glasses Wrap each cup with a few sheets of white paper, than place them inside the box facing up. Use crumbled paper in between cups, make sure not to leave any space between items. Once you are finished filling up the box, put a crumbled layer of paper on top, and seal the box.
Pictures/Mirrors To protect your pictures and mirrors apply bubble wrap (do not used paper) on both side of painting/mirror. Place them on the edge in special picture box, and tape it in a crossing pattern to prevent any damage.
Lamps/Electronics Pack electronics in the original boxes, if the original box is missing use bubble wrap to protect your electronics and place them in a strong cardboard box.
Clothing To pack your clothing use wardrobe boxes, since they have metal bars (hangers) it will keep your clothes clean and wrinkle-free. You can also place some items on the bottom of the wardrobe box. If you do not have a wardrobe box, use medium sized box, gently fold your clothe and place them inside the box. Suitcases also can be used to pack clothing. Make sure that your dressers are completely empty.
